Scientific American illustration to accompany an article about the strange, beautiful, and endangered American Burying Beetle, Nicrophorus americanus.  After drawing and photographing a specimen of the beetle in the collection of the California Academy of Sciences, I built some polymer clay models to use as reference and to incorporate into the finished illustration.
